Used Book Trade-In and Puzzle Exchange Policies

Used Book Trade-In Policy

How it Works:

The Beekeeper’s Bookshop is always looking for used books in good condition to sell. We want to reward you for providing them to us. We may not accept every book and do have some parameters:

  • If your book is torn in any way, has a broken binding, browning or soiled pages, is written in or highlighted, or other damage, we may not accept your book.

  • If we already have one or more copies of your book, we may not accept your book.

  • We may refuse your book if it is old and no longer relevant.

  • Hardcover books must have the dust jacket.

  • We do not accept periodicals or newspapers. Just books.

  • We do not accept Reader’s Digest Condensed Books, mass market paperbacks (like Harlequin books) or encyclopedias (Google, for God’s sake).

  • We reserve the right to refuse books we do not think will sell. The owner is a professor but even she doesn’t think she can sell something like a textbook, for example.

  • If you purchase a used book at The Beekeeper’s Bookshop, you may return it for trade provided it still meets the parameters set out above.

  • If we do not accept your book(s), it leaves the store with you. We are not disposing of books but we can recommend libraries that may take your donation.

  • Please be considerate when bringing in used books for sale. We are a one person (maybe two) shop and we want to make sure we can serve everyone appropriately. Please no more than ten books at any one time.

If we accept your book, you will receive:

  • Store credit (we do not offer cash for books).

  • You will receive ½ the amount we plan to charge for the book. For example, quality paperbacks may sell for between $3-5 so you would receive store credit between $1.50-2.50. A hardcover book may sell for between $5-10 so you would receive store credit between $2.50-5.00.

  • Your store credit will be recorded via our Point-of-Sale system.

  • You may use that store credit when you make a purchase. That store credit may not be redeemed for cash. You may only use store credit up to 50% of your sale. For example, you have a store credit of $10 and you are buying items that total $10. You may only redeem $5 of your store credit. If you have a store credit of $50 and you are buying items that total $100, you may use all of your $50 store credit.

We reserve the right to change our book trade policy at any time without notice.

Puzzle Exchange Policy

How it works:

In addition to books, The Beekeeper’s Bookshop sells puzzles. We would also like to promote the exchange of puzzles. If you have a puzzle you would like to exchange, please adhere to the following parameters:

  • Your puzzle does not need to have been purchased at The Beekeeper’s Bookshop to qualify for exchange, though we will like you better if it is.

  • Please do not bring in damaged puzzles. If your puzzle is missing any pieces, please note that on the inside box cover so that others are aware. We are hoping you will be honest. (Some people don’t mind if a piece or two are missing. Please don’t bring in puzzles missing more than two pieces. That’s just annoying.)

  • You may take a puzzle from the exchange that is equal to or less than the puzzle you brought in for exchange. For example, if you brought in a 500 piece puzzle, please take a 500 piece puzzle or less. Don’t take a 1,000 piece puzzle. Puzzle karma is real.

The Beekeeper’s Bookshop is not responsible for the condition of puzzles and puzzle pieces that are part of the exchange. We will do our best to monitor the exchange, but “exchanger beware.”

Happy puzzling!
